Dancing In The Dark

Most nights you can catch me staring up at the night sky.

I can see the mountains in the distance and the stars peeking through the clouds.

These nights bring me a sense of calm and wonder. It reminds me of how vast our Universe is and that there are things greater than myself that I can’t even begin to fathom. So much magic left to be found.

It also reminds me of someone I’d travel galaxies for.

I met someone last summer. They blazed into my life unexpectedly. Endless hours of talking about anything and everything. Inside jokes, learning what we could in the time we had. They felt a lot like home to me – as though they were meant to be in my life.

I fell in love.

The night sky reminds me of it all. I can smile with a few stray tears running down my face as the stars dance and show me their magnificence. In the same way this person showed me their own brilliance again and again.

Despite the love I feel, we are two worlds apart and in this lifetime won’t collide into each other.

I take comfort in the fact that we share the same sky. Billions of people look up at the moon each night and yet I’m only thinking of one and hope they are looking up as well.

In an alternate universe: if such a thing exists, I don’t write blog posts about yearning for something I can’t have. It’s already mine.

So, I’ll continue to envelop myself in the comfort of the night sky and its billions of possibilities waiting for me just beyond where I can’t yet see.

Until Then.
